Costa Rica Vacation | Things you MUST know before going

Read our Costa Rican travel guide here to learn everything you need to know about Costa Rica before going for a vacation.

WEATHER

There are only two seasons in Costa Rica: dry and wet. The dry season is around mid-November to April; while wet season, also known as rainy or green season, is around May to mid-November. Just because it’s dry season, it doesn’t mean there’ll be no rain. And just because it’s wet season, it doesn’t mean there’ll always be rain. September and October are the rainiest months; so unless you and your Costa Rican woman love to enjoy the rain outside, it’s best to stay warm inside.

Considering the weather, do bring insect repellants to keep mosquitoes away. When it gets hot, it gets hot enough to dehydrate you and burn your skin. That’s not fun at all, but you know what is? Applying sunscreen on each other. Be generous while at it.

COMMUNICATION

Costa Rica is a Spanish-speaking country. But plenty of Costa Ricans can speak English rather well. You wouldn’t have any problem asking around in most tourist destinations. Costa Ricans are also known for their warmth and hospitality. They always look out for their visitors and tourists. But don’t expect them all to be fluent in conversational English. They may be able to understand you but not everyone can maintain a conversation in English for long. So it would be a great idea to learn a few Spanish words and phrases too. After all, you are just a visitor in their country so you ought to learn a word or two in their language as your own simple way of paying respect to the traditions and culture of Costa Rica.

FOOD

Apart from beautiful attractions and equally stunning women, one of the other major draws of Costa Rica tourism is its delectable cuisine. Costa Rican food is famous around the world for its unique and distinct combination of flavors that will explode in your mouth at first bite.

Some of the Costa Rican specialties you shouldn’t miss trying are gallo pinto - the countries national dish, casado, tamal, arroz con leche, olla de carne, and patacones. Make sure to try these dishes out for a complete Costa Rican experience.

TRAVEL

Costa Rica is a treasure when it comes to scenery and adventures. But we advise against cramming too many destinations on your itinerary if you don’t plan on staying long. With the beauty of Costa Rica’s scenery and landscape, you’d want to enjoy the places you’ll visit as much as you can. And going for a stop and go kind of trip will make that virtually impossible.

We also recommend that you take precautionary measures while out and about in Costa Rica. When going around, it’s best to always go for official red taxis or rent a car. If you’re prone to getting motion-sickness, bring along medications or enjoy a cup of ginger tea before hitting the road.
