Speed Dating in Person: Tips for a Successful Experience
“You would think that was not enough time to speak to five or six different ladies, but believe me, it was
enough time.”
This is what International Matchmaker Joe said after attending the Costa Rica socials for the first time.
According to him, he’s used to the flow of events in the Ukraine socials that he was surprised to find out that
in Costa Rica, they had a similar format to speed dating events.
In such social activities for singles, the main concern is usually the limited time.
As the goal is to meet as many potential partners within 10 to 15 minutes, many have stated that it’s not enough
to make a good impression and interact with various people.
However, as Joe mentioned, it is enough time. It’s simply a matter of how you’re able to maximize the minutes
given to you.
Having said that, here are a few tips for speed dating in person that you can try out.
Match Speed Dating
According to Joe, there were two nights of the socials.
With 10 participants, each person was assigned to one of 10 different tables, each filled with five to six women.
Given this setup, if you attend such singles meeting events, all the focus is on you.
Every 15 minutes, you would then switch tables and introduce yourself to the women at the new table.
During the given time, try to lead the conversation.
Start by introducing yourself and then ask questions to learn more about the women.
You can also bring up interesting conversation starters to keep the discussion going.
However, it’s important to avoid controversial topics and keep your answers concise to allow everyone at the
table a chance to speak.
Moreover, since there are two
nights of the socials, treat the first night as an introductory course. Get to know the women’s
names and interests and see if anyone stands out to you.
On the second night, focus more on spending time with the women who have caught your attention.

Dating with Results

According to Joe, at the end of the socials, the women were all given slips of paper that had their name, profile
number, and phone number.
If they’re new to our matchmaking agency and don’t have a profile number yet, they will be given another number
based on their registration sheet.
Joe stated that these women will give you their slip of paper if they’re interested in you.
However, it’s hard to remember whom to contact afterward if you’ve received plenty of those papers.
In this case, Joe advised that you can be selective and only take the papers of those you’re interested in.
“Sometimes, some of them are quite shy, so if you’re interested in them, you can ask for their number, and
they’ll give you the slip of paper,” added Joe.
